6 Months Old!

You know when people tell you, "Enjoy your baby, it goes to fast!"?

They're SO right.

Silas is 6 months old today!

It was exactly a year ago today that we announced that he was joining our family.

Wow.

While we are incredibly biased, Silas is an awesome little guy.

He's very smiley and in a good mood (unless he's hungry!)

He also REALLY loves solid foods! He fusses if you're not shoveling it into his mouth fast enough!

He has serious FOMO.

We found that out during our trip to Texas!

He was a champ through traveling!

Exciting events from this past month:
First boat ride!

Baby dedication at church

...as well as our first big family road trip to Texas!

He's just the best!

4 Months Old!

Silas is already 4 months old!

In the past month, our little guy has become much more smiley and talkative.

Seeing your baby smile when they see your face is the most amazing thing!

We've officially started teething these past few days and he has been sick and sniffly, so his 4 month picture is a little late!

Silas had some exciting firsts this month!

His 1st Cardinals game:
He did awesome!

First time in the pool:

First time eating cereal:

Silas is looking more and more like his daddy every day!

We are absolutely in love with and so thankful for our boy!

3 Months Old!

Silas is 3 months old today!

Sometimes I feel like he's still that cute, squishy faced newborn we just brought home yesterday, and other times it feels like he's been here for SO much longer than 3 months!

What an absolute joy he is!

Silas smiles are easily the best part of my day. He's trying to figure out how to laugh; and while it comes out sounds more like a cough, its precious! (I'm not just saying that because I'm his mama either!)

He's still pretty stingy with smiles for people other than Chad and I, but at home they are plentiful...most often when he first wakes up.

Yeah, he did NOT get that from his mommy.

He still loves bathtime and his Wubbanub.

A new favorite thing of his is when Daddy sings to him...especially Garth Brooks!

I had Garth on in the car the other day and had to turn it down to make a phone call, and Silas actually started whining and fussing until it was back on.

He's a smart boy!

While we are still working on tummy time, he doesn't hate it as much as he used to.

I think that's also due to his visits to the chiropractor! He has been going a few times a week and is doing better overall.

As far as sleep goes, thank you THANK YOU to those who suggested babywise!

He's down to one feeding/night at around 10pm. Then he usually sleeps until I get him up and start his day at 530. Sometimes he is up a little earlier, say 430 or 5, but he's adjusting and so are we.

It takes so much stress off the day knowing his schedule is mostly predictable!

He goes to work with me, and while it's crazy, and chaotic, and stressful, its SUCH a blessing to be able to have him with me...I think I'd miss him too much without!

While the eventual goal is for me to be able to stay home with him full time, we are making it okay right now....I've just had to lower my expectations a LOT for getting much else done besides making sure everyone is fed and has clean clothes to wear!

Exciting "firsts" this month:

Silas made his very first trip to the lake, and he did awesome with the change in routine and the long car ride!

He got to go to his first of (I'm sure!) several of his cousin's baseball games. Our boy loves being outside!

He got to go to the circus last weekend for a client event! He slept some, woke up and watched, ate, and watched some more until he fell asleep! I was so proud of how well he did!

One of the most exciting, was that he got to meet his great grandparents! (my mom's parents) I feel beyond blessed that he gets to meet them and will get to meet his great grandma on my dad's side this summer!

As far as exciting things upcoming for our boy,

He gets to go to his very first Cardinals game this Friday!

We also have family pictures with Chad's side of the family!

/Our little boy is so amazing. Sometimes I just stare at him and can't believe that he's ours.

His smile makes my day and sometimes I can't believe how blessed I am to be his mama!

The Thing We Wish We Didn't Have To Do

As a new parent, there are things you look forward to...

the first bath, first (gas) smile, etc.

While these are great moments, many of which we have been experiencing with Silas recently, there are things we wish we didn't have to do...

Today was one of those.

What did we do?

...well for those who remember, this weekend last year life as we knew it shattered.

We started Friday morning of this weekend last year excited and a little nervous...

We had our 9 week doctors appointment with my OB; and in that appointment we were to find out if I was carrying one or two babies.

At the appointment, we found out that the baby (babies?) was not looking as it should and we needed to go to the perinatal center to find out what was going on.

Sitting in that room at the hospital, we got the worst news possible.

Our baby was gone.

He/she/they had stopped growing and was not showing any signs of viability.

That day ended with surgery for me, and us returning home absolutely emotionally, mentally, and spiritually gutted.

Being that St. Anthony's is a Catholic hospital, they have a portion of their cemetery designated to be a final resting place for our baby's earthly body.

The spot is beautiful, with a statue of Jesus bearing the inscription,  "Let the little children come onto me..."

With this weekend being the one year anniversary of our baby's arrival into Jesus' arms, it was time to visit again; this time with our Silas.

As a parent, we never wanted to have to do the difficult thing we had to do today...introducing Silas to the older sibling(s) he has in heaven.

While today he was definitely unaware of where he was and what this place meant, I know there will be a day that we go to visit and his innocent young mind will have questions...

...about his siblings...

...about why they aren't here...

...about....just...why.

And as his mom and dad we will have to answer his questions, the good, the bad, and the ugly.

And hopefully not sob through it all and scare him.

Going back a year after this happened wasn't easier than in the past.

As all parents of babies in heaven know, it's a hurt that never goes away.

Sure, some days are better than others, but not a day goes by where you don't think of them and wonder who they'd be today, or what their story would have been.

Now, we try to remember that their story was written by God to join Him in heaven long before we ever wanted to let them go.

Ever since we found out that Silas was coming, I knew in my heart this day was coming as well.

And on the night he was born, as I was staring into his beautiful, alert eyes, my thoughts went for just a moment to his sibling(s), and the day that they would be introduced.

As we sat at the grave site today, I told Silas about his sibling, and how they had to go to be with Jesus before we could meet them, and how he would meet them someday in heaven.

I told him that they were still a part of our family, how loved they were and still are, and how his daddy and I hoped he would always remember them and think of them as a wonderful, beautiful part of our family, even though we never met on Earth.

Yeah, today was one of those hard parenting moments, one of those things we wish we didn't have to do; but by God's grace we made it through and will continue to walk through.

On His Due Date...

Today would have been our sweet Silas's due date.

Or alternately, he would have been one week old today if we had been induced!

He is the best.

(Obviously I think that, I'm his mama!)

Is he a perfect baby? No. But he's amazing!

We've had some ups and downs in these first 11 days.

He's met family and a few friends, had his newborn photos, and a few nights with LOTS of awake time!

He seems to not want to settle down after his first middle of the night feeding.

Like, the first feeding/awake time takes an hour and a half plus!

Obviously its a normal thing, its just not as enjoyable in the moment!

Chad did his first full night shift Saturday night.

What a trooper. He did great!

Silas is a BIG eater! I don't think our petite boy will be petite for very long!

We go for a weight check tomorrow and will see for sure, but I feel like he has already grown.

It's crazy!

...speaking of crazy, its true what people say...

the first few days/weeks are a blur!

I feel like we just got home from the hospital, but then I turned around and he's been home for 9 days!

I love seeing Chad and Silas together.

Silas LOVES snuggling his daddy.

He can be restless or upset, and all I need to do is hand him to his dad, and he's calm and happy.

Silas has also gotten to meet my nanny family.

The kids were SO excited to meet him.

The big ones did well, but Littlest Miss wasn't so sure....

...a little jealousy and a lot of curiosity.

She is very into carrying around her baby doll, but she needs some work on realizing that she can't treat this baby just the same. Haha.

Their mom texted me later that night, and told me that as she was putting Little Miss to bed, she asked if she liked her new friend Silas.

Her response?

"He's not my friend, he's my family!"

Yep, that was one of those moments where I felt like my heart would explode!

I love being this little guy's mommy.

Our Greatest Gift

He's here!!

He's here and he's perfect!! (obviously haha)

Our little man is here. And he's kind of amazing.

Silas was born at 8:19pm on  February 1!

He weighed in at 6 lbs. and 14 oz. He measured 20.25 inches.

Although, the cone head (that's gone now!) added probably an inch!

Amazingly, when he was born, he didn't cry.

His lungs were fine and all, he was just looking around, wide awake, and taking it all in.

....and then he peed. On me.

Welcome to boy mom life, right?

He's been a good eater, and a good sleeper so far!

He got to meet both sets of grandparents and Aunt Jenna the night he was born.

We got to take him home Saturday morning.

And the special part was that Silas wore home the hat, booties, and blanket that Chad wore home, 28 years earlier.

Chad is doing AWESOME.

For a guy who hasn't spent much time around babies prior to Silas, I am so impressed.

He is a master at swaddling, and has gotten the hang of diaper changes.

He has also been good at taking some time so that I can get a nap each afternoon!

The dogs are also very aware of their new baby.

Loki is especially interested.

He is always near "his" baby.

Any time Silas makes a  noise of any kind, Loki is there to check on him!

We just have to remind him that Silas doesn't need ALL the kisses.

Silas is a good baby!

He basically eats, sleeps, and poops.

We had our first visit to the pediatrician today and he is a healthy little boy!

We feel so blessed.
